3 GOLD Rings in 4 Hours! | Metal Detecting UK

It’s my first time back out metal detecting since the BIG DIG, and after what has been a pretty hectic and unrelenting summer of detecting, I’ve ended up with something I’m calling “Swinger’s Hip”. 😂 #GoldRing #MetalDetectingUK #RomanCoin #DetectingHistory There’s a funny story behind that, but I’m not going to give you the full story here because it’s already been told elsewhere... which brings me nicely onto some other news! I’ve joined forces with Katie MacDoyle over on the Detecting History Channel, where I’ll be joining her as co-host for Series 4. We’ve already recorded and released our first episode and had great fun chatting about all things metal detecting. Over the coming episodes we’ll be talking about finds, detecting news, product reviews, TV programmes, books, exhibitions, upcoming events and plenty more, as well as welcoming some great guests onto the show for interviews. We’ll be recording a new episode every fortnight, so stay tuned! After finishing recording with Katie, I hot footed it over to one of our local permissions for a cheeky four hour detecting session. I knew we had a decent chance of finding something because of the land we were on... but I had absolutely no idea just how good the afternoon was going to be. I kicked things off with a lovely double loop buckle dating from around the 16th–17th century, followed by a couple of George III coins and the usual assortment of bits and bobs. My detecting companion for the afternoon, Michael, started in much the same way. A few Georges, a few Vickys and what looked like it might be a fairly average afternoon. And then the magic started to happen... GOLD!!! 🥇 Out came a fantastic three band Russian style wedding ring. And as if finding gold wasn't enough... ROMAN! Michael followed it up with a Roman radiate. Safe to say, he went home a very happy man! 😂 My own finds might have been a little more modest this time, but after being laid up and unable to detect for several weeks, simply getting back into a field and swinging the detector again was an absolute treat. And an impromptu visit to my favourite local pub on the way home? Well... that finished the day off perfectly. 🍺 Thanks as always for watching.
