He initially started his career as a popular Gaana singer before making a breakthrough transition into cinema. Acting: He made his acting debut in the critically acclaimed movie Nandha (2001). Known mostly for his comic and supporting roles, he has also played the main lead in films like Dindigul Sarathy (2008) and Ambasamudram Ambani (2008). Recently, he made headlines for revealing that he turned down the main lead role in Vetri Maaran's blockbuster film Asuran (which eventually starred Dhanush) because he believed the script structurally required a mass hero image to reach a wider audience. Music & Production: Beyond acting, Karunas is a skilled playback singer and music composer, having scored music for films like Kasethan Kadavulada. Industry Leadership: He serves as the Vice President of the Nadigar Sangam (South Indian Artistes' Association). Karunas is the founder and leader of the Mukkulathor Pulipadai political party. He was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in Tamil Nadu, serving from 2016 to 2021. More recently, he was designated to contest from the Sivaganga constituency as part of the DMK alliance. He is married to Grace Karunas, a popular playback singer. The couple has a daughter, Diana, and a son, Ken Karunas.
