The Roman Empire Never Fell, It Just Became Something Else

When did the Roman Empire really fall? Romulus Augustulus was deposed in 476 AD, but the Roman Empire survived in Constantinople until 1453. This documentary traces Constantine's new capital in 330, the 395 split between Arcadius and Honorius, Justinian's reconquests and legal reforms, and how taxes, walls and trade kept the Eastern Roman state alive until Mehmed II's siege killed Constantine XI.
