Delhi SIR Voter List Controversy: The Supreme Court has questioned the Election Commission of India over the removal of nearly 47.57 lakh names from Delhi’s draft electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
During the October 28 hearing, the Court questioned why people who were already registered voters but were left out of the draft list were being asked to submit Form 6, which is generally used for new voter registration. The discussion also focused on Form 8, which covers shifting of residence and correction of electoral details, and the October 30 deadline for filing claims and objections.
The Court urged the Election Commission to make the process more accessible and ensure eligible voters have a fair opportunity to seek inclusion. The matter remains subject to further proceedings, and the Court’s questions should not be treated as a final ruling on every aspect of the SIR process.
Watch this report for the key facts, the forms involved and what the Supreme Court said.
