Forget castles and great houses. This is the other side of medieval England — the homes where ordinary people actually lived. In this episode, Kevin takes us inside three remarkable medieval homes at the Weald & Downland Living Museum — from the cramped hovel of a poor peasant family to the substantial hall house of a prosperous medieval yeoman. We begin before the Black Death, inside a simple flint and then we see how life could improve after the Black Death transformed the medieval labour market. With workers suddenly in short supply, survivors could demand better wages, better terms — and even better accommodation. Along the way, Kevin explores how medieval families cooked, slept, earned money, kept warm, dealt with rats and waste, and made the most of the homes they could afford. Filmed at the Weald & Downland Living Museum in West Sussex, England. https://wealddown.co.uk Join our PATREON community for exclusive content, meet-ups and video topic votes!   / thehistorysquad   OTHER LINKS: Buy Me A Coffee: https://buymeacoffee.com/thehistorysquad Facebook:   / historysquad   Twitter:   / history_hicks
