Additional Notes:
Sermon Topic: BASIC INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE LEAVING EARTH
Rev. Willie A. Glaster, Jr. Date: June 20, 2009
Please let us stand together and join with me in Scripture as we go to the Gospel According to Mark 4: 14 - 20 I will be reading from the (New King James Version) of the Bible.
Secondary Scripture: 2 Timothy 3: 16 - 17. All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right. It is God’s way of preparing us in every way, fully equipped for every good thing God wants us to do (New Living Translation).
LET US PRAY
I. Introduction. (**Spend 3 minutes)
Before someone starts at their first military assignment, one must go through Basic Training. Before someone starts in their occupation, one must spend time in preparation and go through orientation.
As we examine this story, there are four items I want to share with you this morning as your hearts are meditating on the Word of God.
II. Examination. (**Spend 12 minutes)
A. The SOWER (Jesus Christ) and the SEED (Word of God).
B. WAYSIDE GROUND OR HARD PATH.
C. STONY GROUND. If the Father is the Vinedresser and Christ is the Vine, then we, as true disciples, true believers are Branches.
A branch is simply a bit of wood brought forth by the vine for the one purpose of serving it in bearing its fruit.
D. THORNY GROUND. Three things the Word is choked and becomes unfruitful—Worldly anxiety, Lure of riches, and the craving for other things: Branches must abide—that is to remain, dwell, endure, last, to persevere, stand firm, to remain alive. There is no strain or effort. All a branch does is rest. If we want joy, then, we have to trust and obey; sink ourselves into the True Vine. We must realize that we can’t do it all by ourselves.
E. GOOD GROUND. Three things required: Hear the Word, Receive the Word, bring forth much abundant fruit . The definition of the word fruit is this: a natural product of a relationship between the vine and the branch.
III. Conclusion. INVITATION TO CHRISTIAN DISCIPLESHIP
