A new tyre for my Renault Duster costs around ₹10,000, while a second-hand one can cost around ₹2,500. But is that saving worth the uncertainty? Some used tyres I bought earlier lasted only 4,000–5,000 km, while one lasted around 25,000 km. This time, I visited the second-hand tyre market to find out whether I could identify a good replacement. Across several shops, I found sellers recommending different tyre sizes, very old tyres, and tyres with freshly cut grooves. I share my experience, explain tyre basics, and show the warning signs I noticed while inspecting them. I also discuss who might consider a second-hand tyre, when buying new makes more sense, and what I finally chose—followed by wheel alignment and balancing. Have you ever bought a second-hand tyre?
