Black Friday, order 42: checkout confirms, the customer waits for the email... and the email never shows up. Messages don't get lost on their own: they get lost where nobody confirmed them. In this video we spin up RabbitMQ 4.4 from scratch and follow that order end to end, from producer to consumer, configuring every piece so it can't disappear.
In this video: why use a queue at all; where AMQP and RabbitMQ came from; the producer → exchange → binding → queue model; the default exchange nobody created; direct, fanout, topic and headers; starting it with Docker; a compose file with a pinned version, hostname and volume; topology in a definitions file, versioned in git; vhosts, users and permissions; a tour of the management UI; persistent messages, publisher confirms and mandatory; manual acks and prefetch on the consumer; idempotency against the duplicate email; classic, quorum and stream queues; dead letter exchanges and the poison message; policies; memory and disk alarms; clusters with three nodes, never two; the four numbers to monitor; and the list of mistakes the docs themselves tell you to avoid.
Order 42 and the store are fictional, and the store's timings are illustrative. The commands and behaviors shown were checked in the channel's own local test with RabbitMQ 4.4.0 (official Docker image) and pika 1.4.4, on Oct 20, 2026.
