It was year 1994. The young man, passionate about his ATARI computer and programming had plenty of ideas about what to do with his time and this fantastic 8-bit machine. Breaking security in games published by Polish game producers for Atari and modifying the working code to obtain infinite lives were just some of the interesting challenges that could be undertaken when the architecture of an 8-bit computer, the Assembler language and reading low-level machine code were well mastered. The other ideas were writing the games. A few have been created along with several utilities by this guy, but neither has been published as an official game in the commercial market. Almost 30 years later, the source code has been recovered from the original disk (5.25" format) and successfully compiled under Visual Studio Code using MADS (a multi-pass cross-assembler designed for 6502 and 65816 processors). On the same day, there was a proposal to formally release this game for all Atari enthusiasts who would like to have a collector's edition of this game in their collection. A few people from Atari community started working on this, including me who was obligated to make several corrections and improvements to the code of this game so that a new improved version could be published. This immediately forced me to recall the principles of assembly language programming and all the code I had written 30 years earlier. The result…? Watch by yourself. In this video, I chaotically tell a shortened version of my beginnings with computers & programming mainly focusing on "Dangerous City" game. I briefly explain how my programming journey became a spark for writing games. The original and the latest version of the code is open source. Furthermore, all changes were being committed from the very beginning on GitHub's repository. Bear in mind: You can play for free (running on an emulator, for example), but if you have a physical "small" Atari and decide to buy the game - 100% of sales revenue proceeds go to the PTODT organization.
