The basic speed law says you should never drive faster than is safe for current conditions, even under the speed limit. Rain, fog, traffic and people decide your safe speed, and the limit is only the most you're allowed. Pause and guess before each answer, like on your DMV permit test.
Every scene is real traffic from Yield, a driving game for the US driving test. Rain and fog are added in the edit.
What you'll learn:
• What decides a safe speed: weather, visibility, traffic, the road
• The limit is a ceiling, not a target, even when traffic goes faster
• Wet road: 5 to 10 mph slower, and the first rain is the worst
• Fog: only as fast as you can stop in the space you can see; under 100 ft visible, no faster than 30
• Ease off before a crosswalk, slow early for stopped traffic
• "But I wasn't speeding": too fast for conditions, under the limit
• Over the limit is a ticket in most states; prima facie in some, like Texas and Utah
• Too slow can be a ticket too
