Masdo - "Gotta Be My Gurl" (#TOTPcovers Day 4)

For Day 4 of #TOTPcovers, we have none other than Malaysia's hottest pop yeh yeh revival heroes Masdo giving their own pop yeh yeh spin on "Gotta Be My Gurl", one of the main staples of our live sets ever since we released Top Of The Pop back in 2006. Masdo may be a relatively new band with what can only be called a meteoric rise to the upper echelons of the Malaysian music scene, both indie and mainstream, but we've known most of their band members for a long time from their journeys with their previous bands, from Ali's days fronting The Lipstik to Am's (ecehhh Ambobzeela sebenarnya kannn) days drumming with Hujan (we actually knew Am even earlier, when he played drums for D-va) and of course, our dearest Ipoh buddy Putu Ceri, who in case you didn't know not only fronted Popkonspirasy before this, but was also frontman of grunge/alternative old timers Green Paver. So it's been a real pleasure seeing them blow up like that, especially knowing how long and hard they've worked before this, and knowing how big they've become now we're kind of shy to ask them if they'd be interested to contribute to this small little project, but we glad we did because not only was the answer an instant yes, but they also picked the perfect song for their trademark pop yeh yeh sound, and the result is there for all to hear in this very uplifting and exuberant version they delivered. In fact, we feel like putting on our dancing shoes and do the twist, the shake, the mashed potato, the chicken and whatever 60s dance moves there are out there every time we give this version a spin.
