Here we are now, finally. It is about time you showed up Fox. After an hydration break that lasted years, Fox and co are back to finish once and for all the Lylat wars in the definitive cinematic fashion they always deserved and tried to capture with the limited technology; those limitations are completely gone now and the cinematic experience is a reality now. War is over. Third time's the charm means that we open up the third success tier after mission complete and mission accomplished.
Mission Fullfilled
And this track captures the feeling of triumph like any other, hence why composer Koji Kondo took the intro of this piece and adapted it as the epic finale of the End Credits music for Star Fox 64 which in turn informed the epic finale of the End Credits for Ocarina of Time.
One note sustained while chords move in groups of two. It creates a sense of anticipation as we move in the Aeolian Dominant vamp of G to F—F6 really—before finally allowing itself to move beyond and catharically end with Cm/Eb - Fsus2 - G.
This opening here is also similar to the coda of the Title Theme, which also suggest the bVII - bVI movement. This one sounds more melancholic since it lacks the Bb note that will make the chord Eb as opposed to Cm.
Then we get into the origin of the Title Theme of the game, a confident march full of positive vibes and hope for what is to come in the future. The war effort has been hard but it is for a noble cause. This melody also forms part of the Ending theme from the game, making all the motifs from the Star Fox team interconnected from start to finish and drilling them into the players head time after time.
The movement continues with the same G to F—Fadd9 since Gs are still at the bottom— and then a more standard G Ionian/Major descending progression with
C - Bm - Am - Gmaj7
C - G - Am - C - D7/9
The true end of an era. Here is to more adventures from Fox and his team. That they might move forward at boost speed.
We are in for a trill as the brand new version of the soundtrack drops fully. So you better donate and support the channel in order for me to afford a Switch 2 and the game.
As a bit of trivia, most of the tracks from the soundtrack release of Star Fox are slower than within the game action. Only the ones written by Koji Kondo are the same speed between game and soundtrack release.
