Chain driven VHS madness. The JVC HR-7700E / Ferguson 3V23 from around 1980.

The 3V23 is a huge, ancient and highly featured VHS machine which today has a following. The front loading carriage mechanism is operated by a bizarre chain drive mechanism. Generally I have little interest in VHS video recorders, but the 3V23 is a very early model that I do remember from back in the day. Can I get one working again? More importantly, can I do so without losing my sanity? The answer to that last question, appears to be NO.
