The Cumbrian Coast Express & The Settle & Carlisle Special | Diesel Traction Only! 15th August 2025

It's the tailend of another heatwave No. 4 in the UK, but all steam operations are off limits on our national network. So it's another "Dieselisation' of the special tours. To mark the occasion, I've made this a Diesel Traction Only video (with one, maybe two exceptions!). Usual spots... Preston, Carnforth and Carlisle to catch a class 37, 47 and 57 on tours from Crewe and Lincoln to Ravenglass and Carlisle. I was hoping to see the 37 again in the evening; but as luck would have it, the train to Carnforth was too late to make it a worthwhile shot. That said, I quite liked the 156 heading off in the low sun. It was nice to see the tearoom at Carnforth open for business on this trip and the cherry tray and tea were excellent. The staff were very nice and the array of food looked good (it's a shame I didnt get a shot of the cakes). Such was the good business that queue was not itself a 'Brief Encounter'.
