EP DESK, 6 NOV 2026, PASIGHAT: The peaceful foot march organised by the Adi Galo Welfare Society (AGWS), which began from Geku in Mariyang on November 4, has reached Pasighat as part of its march towards the State Capital, Itanagar, over issues concerning the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP). During their halt at Pasighat, AGWS President Geyi Bagra and Spokesperson Karge Basar spoke to the media, reiterating the society’s four key demands. These include the immediate and unconditional release of all persons detained in connection with the SUMP issue, peace talks with Central Bogong Organisation (CBO) and other society representatives before any dam construction, revocation of suspension orders issued against Head Gaon Burahs (HGBs), Gaon Burahs (GBs) and government employees in connection with the issue, and withdrawal of paramilitary and Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel from the SUMP-affected villages. The society maintained that dialogue and peaceful engagement with the affected communities were essential before proceeding with any development-related activities concerning the project. Meanwhile, the AGWS expressed its gratitude to the people and well-wishers who have extended support to the marchers along their journey by providing food, drinking water, shelter and other essential assistance. The society acknowledged the public’s hospitality and solidarity, stating that such support has encouraged the participants to continue their peaceful march. The foot march is being carried out under the motto, “Stand United and March Ahead,” with the delegation continuing its journey towards Itanagar to press for its demands.
