Recreating the Footed Chest(Karabitsu) with Phoenix Roundels (7min)

As part of the National Center for the Promotion of Cultural Properties’ cultural heritage reproduction program, ARTerrace Inc. and four artisans worked together under the planning and supervision of the Tokyo National Museum to create a reproduction of the Important Cultural Property Footed Chest (Karabitsu) with Phoenix Roundels. Throughout the project, ARTerrace visited the artisans in their studios to document their work. Through videos of the production process and interviews with the artisans themselves, discover what they felt and thought as they took on the challenge of recreating a masterpiece from the Heian period.
