RIGHTEOUSNESS: The God We Cannot RedefinePs Simon Schembri | The Ark Church, Coomera What does it really mean when the Bible says that God is righteous? We often speak about the love of God, the grace of God, His goodness and His faithfulness — and rightly so. But there is another essential part of God's character that can sometimes be overlooked or even avoided: The righteousness of God. In this message, Ps Simon Schembri explores why God's righteousness is not something uncomfortable to hide from, but an essential part of the beauty of the Gospel. God doesn't simply decide what is right — He is the standard of what is right. And that raises an important question: if God is perfectly righteous, holy and just, what does He do with our unrighteousness? The answer takes us to the Cross. At the Cross, justice and mercy meet. Jesus, the Righteous One, took upon Himself what we deserved so that, through faith in Him, we could receive what we could never earn — His righteousness. Our sin placed upon Christ.His righteousness credited to us. The Great Exchange. This message also asks some challenging questions: Have we confused God's love with God's approval? Are we trusting in our own goodness, or in the righteousness of Christ? And perhaps one of the most confronting questions of all: When was the last time God disagreed with you? Because Christianity isn't about redefining God until He agrees with us. It is about surrendering ourselves to Him and allowing Him to transform us into the likeness of Christ. The righteousness of God should make us both humble and holy — humble because we could never save ourselves, and holy because the One who saved us has called us to live differently.
