The San Juan River in northwest New Mexico hit levels never recorded before. In Shiprock on the Navajo Nation it passed 21 feet early Saturday, almost 7 feet above the 2005 record, and in Farmington it broke a record that had stood since 1909. The National Weather Service estimates up to 1,500 homes and buildings were affected, crews made more than 80 water rescues with boats, helicopters and National Guard vehicles, about 600 Farmington households were told to evacuate, and raw sewage reached the river in Bloomfield. A second storm crosses the Four Corners on Sunday. Figures as of Saturday afternoon, October 24, 2026.
