A tornado struck near Fort Stockton, Texas, on October 14, 2026, prompting the first tornado warning of the year from the National Weather Service office in Midland. The storm moved across Pecos County, where residents captured footage of the twister and reports of damage emerged both north of town and near the county courthouse. The warning was issued at approximately 2:30 p.m. and canceled just 32 minutes later as the immediate threat moved out of the warning area. Radar detected a tight wind rotation shortly before the tornado was spotted, with one wind measurement reaching 91 miles per hour toward the radar. However, the full damage path and intensity have yet to be established. Trees were uprooted, flagpoles bent and buildings damaged in Fort Stockton. No injuries or deaths had been reported in the available updates, but officials had not confirmed whether the courthouse-area damage was caused by the tornado or by another severe wind event. Schools sheltered students or adjusted dismissal plans as the storm approached. In this video, we examine the Fort Stockton tornado reports, the radar signature that appeared before touchdown, the damage still being assessed, and the autumn weather pattern that can bring renewed tornado risks to Texas. Global Weather covers natural disasters and extreme weather events as they develop, using sourced reporting and avoiding unsupported speculation.
