1993 Nissan Primera P10 2.0 eGT Super Tourenwagen STW by Sahl Engineering - Onboard at Nürburgring

We had the pleasure of filming this 1993 Nissan Primera eGT Super Touring (chassis #008) at the Nürburgring during the Super Touring Car (STW) races at the 2026 Belmot Oldtimer Grand Prix. We owe thanks to Austrians Martin and Niclas Sahl of Sahl-Engineering, the car's current owners, for their kindness and for allowing us to install an action camera inside the cockpit. The car was driven by young Niclas, who is only 18 years old, and it was his first race. So, it was an incredible debut for this young driver. He is the third generation of the family to race. It all began with his grandfather, who was a several-time national champion in the 1990s with a Ford Escort Mk1. His father, Martin, later continued racing with the Ford Escort, becoming one of the most successful Historic Racing drivers in the Histo Cup (the largest Historic Championship in Europe). The Sahl family's connection to the Japanese manufacturer stems from his grandfather, a mechanic who ran a Nissan Workshop, and from his father, Martin, who continued to follow the Nissan brand passionately until he finally owned a Nissan Primera, the Supertouring version. Young Niclas, therefore, proudly continues the passion passed down from father to son. This P10 racing sedan was built by renowned tuner Janspeed for Nissan Motorsport Europe. It debuted in Great Britain in 1993 to compete in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), driven by Nissan's Castrol Racing factory team with Win Percy. In 1994, the car traveled to Spain to compete in the Spanish Touring Car Championship (CET), with former Formula 1 driver Luis Pérez-Sala at the wheel. Wearing the colors of Team Repsol Nissan, Pérez-Sala achieved an excellent fifth place overall at the end of the championship. In 1994, it was also driven by Tomás Saldaña. In the following years, it was driven by drivers such as Joan Vinyes and Joan Armadans, before concluding its racing career in hillclimbing with Mario Hekke. The Austrian workshop Sahl-Engineering, which specializes in the restoration and maintenance of historic racing cars and is managed by Martin Sahl, brought the car back to the track, preserving the sophisticated mechanical engineering typical of FIA Class II (Super Touring) regulations intact. Under the hood is the Nissan SR20DE engine, a naturally aspirated, inline-four, 16-valve (Twin Cam) engine with individual throttle bodies (ITB). It develops approximately 290 hp at 8,500 rpm and is mated to a 6-speed sequential gearbox. Inside, we find a fixed Sparco single racing bucket seat set back towards the center of the car to improve weight distribution and a multi-point roll cage welded directly to the suspension struts to stiffen the body.
