Step aboard Maine’s historic windjammers and discover how Captain Frank Swift transformed aging sailing vessels into one of America’s most celebrated passenger fleets.
Windjammers of Penobscot Bay is a half-hour documentary directed by Maine filmmaker Daniel Lambert of the Dirigo History Project. Through maritime history, archival imagery, and the enduring traditions of Maine sailing, the film explores the evolution of Swift’s legendary windjammer fleet based in Camden, Maine.
These majestic schooners once carried cargo along the coast. Under Swift’s leadership, they began a new chapter, carrying passengers through the islands, harbors, and open waters of Penobscot Bay. His vision helped launch Maine’s windjammer tourism industry and preserved an important part of New England’s maritime heritage.
