Starting with 1971 Ford rolls out a lot of consumer demanded upgrades and options that were long awaited. Ford lost thousands of sales each year to the Blazer and Jimmy as a result. First was the option of an automatic transmission, no more three speed manual and clutch pedal. Second was Power Steering! And a much beefier Dane 44 4 wheel drive font axle.
In 1971, 21,056 Broncos were made. 19,553 wagons and 1,503 half cab pick ups.
In 1972, 21,115 Ford Broncos were produced and 1307 were half cab pick ups.
By 1973 two of the biggest demanded items became available, the automatic transmission and power steering.
In 1974, the Bronco suffered the year of a bad economy and fuel crisis. This was the year the 2nd generation ford Bronco was supposed to be released.
1976 and 1977 were the most upgraded first generation Ford Broncos.
