One short law, F = q(E + v×B), runs every electric motor, every particle accelerator and every aurora. This lecture builds the Lorentz force from scratch: fields and the cross product, why the magnetic force does no work, circular motion with r = mv/qB and the speed-independent cyclotron frequency ω = qB/m, helical motion and pitch, and the E×B drift with its cycloid paths. Then the applications: the velocity selector v = E/B, the cyclotron, the mass spectrometer, the Hall effect, the force on a current-carrying wire F = IL×B, and magnetic mirrors, the Van Allen belts and auroras.
We finish with the advanced forms: the relativistic law dp/dt = q(E + v×B), the covariant form dp^μ/dτ = qF^{μν}u_ν, and the Lagrangian L = ½mv² − qφ + q v·A with canonical momentum, minimal coupling and gauge invariance. Worked examples throughout, plus a GATE/CSIR NET-style problem with a full solution.
For B.Sc / M.Sc Physics, CSIR NET, GATE and JEST aspirants.
