If you're planning a Tanzania safari and love birds, wildlife and nature, this video is for you. During our trip through northern Tanzania, we came across an incredible variety of birds — not just inside the national parks, but also around lodges, villages, open plains and along the road. In this video, we're sharing 20 birds we easily found on our Tanzania safari, ranked by how many different places we saw them. These aren't necessarily the rarest birds in Tanzania — instead, they're the species that kept appearing again and again throughout our journey. Our bird sightings came from some of Tanzania's best-known safari and birding destinations, including Tarangire National Park, Arusha National Park, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Lake Manyara, Karatu, Mirerani, Engikaret Lark Plains and Endoro Trails, as well as the gardens around our lodges. Some of the birds featured in this video include the Superb Starling, Southern Ground Hornbill, Red-and-yellow Barbet, Grey-crowned Crane, Common Ostrich, Hamerkop, Grey-headed Kingfisher, Variable Sunbird, Speckled Mousebird, Southern Red Bishop, Von der Decken's Hornbill, Egyptian Goose, Hadada Ibis, Common Bulbul and Baglafecht Weaver. One of the things we loved most about travelling through Tanzania was discovering that wildlife watching doesn't stop when the game drive ends. Some of our best bird sightings happened right outside our accommodation, while travelling between safari destinations, or during walks through the countryside. If you're interested in birdwatching in Tanzania, this video will give you an idea of some of the birds you may encounter fairly easily while exploring the country's northern safari circuit. Whether you're a birder, wildlife photographer, nature lover, safari enthusiast, or planning your first trip to Tanzania, don't forget to keep looking beyond the lions, elephants, giraffes and zebras. Tanzania's birdlife is just as rewarding. Which of these birds would you most like to see on safari? Let us know in the comments.
