ABOUT THIS WEBINAR
What is free surface CFD in SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation, and how do you set up a free surface study?
Free surface analysis in SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation models the changing interface between two immiscible fluids, such as liquid and air. Unlike a fully filled flow domain, the fluid interface can move over time, allowing engineers to simulate applications involving filling, draining, sloshing, and other flows where the position of the liquid surface changes.
In this webinar, Philip Morrow introduces free surface analysis and demonstrates how to set up and evaluate both 2D and 3D free surface simulations in SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation.
IN THIS WEBINAR, YOU'LL LEARN
• What free surface analysis is in CFD
• How free surface simulation works in SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation
• When a free surface study may be appropriate
• How to set up a 2D free surface simulation
• How to set up a 3D free surface simulation
• How to define the fluids involved in the study
• How to prepare geometry for free surface analysis
• How to obtain and evaluate simulation results
Free surface CFD is useful when the boundary between fluids changes as the fluids move through the simulation domain.
In a conventional internal flow study, the fluid region may be completely filled by a single fluid. A free surface problem can instead contain multiple fluid regions, such as liquid occupying part of a container while air occupies the remaining space.
As the simulation progresses, SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation calculates how the interface between those fluids moves through the domain.
This type of analysis can help engineers investigate fluid behavior in applications where the position and movement of a liquid are important to the design.
The webinar begins with the fundamentals of free surface analysis before moving into practical setup examples.
You'll see how to approach a 2D free surface simulation and then expand the workflow into a 3D study, providing a practical foundation for setting up and evaluating free surface CFD problems in SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation.
