One includes electricity, water and internet. The other lists water, garbage and yard cleaning. We went through every rental ad on Encuentra24 for both Panama mountain towns (21 in Boquete, 11 in Volcán, of which 17 and 8 are homes) and compared what the money buys: a $450 studio with everything included, a $500 house with an email screening, a $550 two-bedroom with a one-line ad, a $600 apartment, a $650 casita and more. Then the four things the ads leave out (power and internet, the lease, furniture, getting around) and one line that decides it all: a field on one listing that says "maintenance costs: 50". 📌 All listing links and the sources used in this video are in the pinned first comment. Rents are asking prices from online ads on the date checked, not signed leases, and they change fast. Electricity figures are from proposed regulator rates and a monthly use we assumed, not your bill; internet is a rough figure from a small cost survey. Have a Panamanian lawyer review any lease before you sign or pay. Where the actual home is shown, the photos come from its listing; other footage is illustrative. Subscribe to Retirement Atlas - every week we check real listings in another country and tell you what the relocation videos leave out. Which would you rather have for around $600 a month: the bigger house with the bills to work out, or the smaller place where the price is the price? And if there's a country or a city you're weighing up, put it in the comments and we'll check its listings the same way.
