Quando a gente pensa sobre o arquipélago havaiano, muitas vezes não nos questionamos o porquê de um território tão remoto e com uma cultura tão específica ser parte dos Estados Unidos. O Havaí resulta das mesmas ondas migratórias que colonizaram as ilhas da Polinésia, na chamada Oceania Remota — e, hoje, é o centro de debates sobre colonialismo, resistência e soberania. De um arquipélago surpreendentemente isolado culturalmente a um reino reconhecido internacionalmente, a história do Havaí nos fascina e nos ensina.
