They first appeared in the non-canonical online game Smash Party and later its sequel, Viper Smash.Later, in Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu it was revealed that Zane is a robot, but Jay dubbed him as a "Nindroid". In the third season of Ninjago, "Rebooted", the Digital Overlord created an army of Nindroids, based on Zane's blueprints. In seasons 4 and 5, Cyrus Borg was also seen with security Nindroids. Echo Zane, a Nindroid based on Zane's blueprints, also made an appearance in season 5, "Skybound".
