For years, my brain was wired for constant stimulation. Scrolling, short videos, instant hits of entertainment that killed my attention span without me even noticing. Anything slow felt unbearable, especially reading. I couldn’t focus, couldn’t sit still, and definitely couldn’t finish a book. At some point it hit me: I was consuming more than ever but thinking less than ever. So I forced myself to slow down and pick up reading again, even when it felt frustrating and pointless at first. This is about what that shift looked like, why it was so difficult, and how stepping away from constant stimulation helped me rebuild my focus, think more clearly, and actually enjoy using my brain again.
