Three tiny specks of placer GOLD were enough to tell me this creek was hiding something bigger. So I followed the clues — from bedrock, roots and old bench gravels to a feeder tributary, iron-stained altered rock and eventually the LODE GOLD source. In this video I'm showing you how I prospect when I'm trying to go from a few tiny colors in a creek to higher concentrations of GOLD. We start by sampling exposed bedrock, behind large rocks, roots, moss and clay-rich traps. Then we test old gravel benches and bedding contacts before following the gold into a small tributary and uphill toward increasingly altered bedrock. This is where geology becomes your most important prospecting tool. You'll see why I pay attention to: • Exposed bedrock and false bedrock • Large boulders and natural gold traps • Roots and moss that can catch fine placer gold • Ancient and high bench gravels • Feeder tributaries • Red, orange and black iron staining • Limonite, goethite and hematite • Oxidized sulfides • Altered andesite • Fault gouge and breccia • Clay alteration • Old prospect pits • Vein structures The first few tiny pieces of placer gold are not necessarily the destination — they're CLUES. The key is to mark your samples, pay attention to the size and character of the gold and keep following the geological evidence toward higher concentrations or the possible source. Then we put the geology to the test by sampling the mineralized material and panning it to see whether the GOLD is actually there. This is real-world gold prospecting and field geology you can use anywhere you're working in a known gold-producing district. IMPORTANT: Always verify current land ownership, active mining claims, closures and access regulations before prospecting or collecting samples. ⏱️ CHAPTERS [INSERT FINAL CHAPTERS FROM THE FINAL CUT] Want to ask me a gold, geology, mining or prospecting question directly?
