Mike Winger vs The Day of Atonement in Hebrews 14

Does the Passover sacrifice actually teach Penal Substitutionary Atonement? We examine how Mike Winger’s arguments hold up under scrutiny. In this episode, we analyze the theological claims regarding the Passover and why conflating it with the Day of Atonement creates significant interpretive issues. We address why the New Testament references the Passover frequently while omitting the Day of Atonement, questioning the consistency of modern applications of these ancient rituals. By looking closely at the text of Hebrews and the historical context provided by the Dead Sea Scrolls, we test whether these common theological frameworks accurately reflect the original intent of Scripture. We also walk through three specific misunderstandings regarding sacrifices, the Mercy Seat, and the Tabernacle. This discussion clarifies whether these elements were intended as a direct picture of Christ or if they functioned as an accommodation to the cultural environment of Israel. Our goal is to determine if current teachings on atonement require a paradigm shift to better align with the biblical text.
