★ 4K 🇨🇭 Locarno - Bellinzona - Göschenen - Zug - Zürich Gotthard cab ride, Switzerland [07.2026]

What else but the Gotthard railway? One of the most iconic railways in Switzerland, serving as a freight and passenger corridor through the alps and through Europe since 1882. Incredible what they accomplished back then! It cut transport of goods and travel time between Basel and Chiasso from 36 continuous hours to 8 hours and 15 minutes, with the steam engines of that era. Electrification cut the time down to about 4 hours and 20 minutes and the new base tunnel which we have been through in previous videos cuts about another hour off of that. In its first year of operation it exceeded forecasts multiple times over, transporting a quarter of a million passengers and 300'000 tons of goods. Now the numbers are closer to 6.5 million passengers, 511'000 of whom take the scenic route we're taking today and 24.2 million tons of cargo.
