According to the government, all licensed satcom operators must first demonstrate compliance with India’s security requirements before moving to the next stage of spectrum assignment. In this video, we explain why Starlink has still not launched in India, the role of security clearance, and how India regulates satellite communication services. The discussion covers concerns related to data security, lawful interception, Indian gateways, network monitoring, and national security. We also explain the regulatory position of key players such as Starlink, Eutelsat OneWeb and Jio Satellite Communications, and discuss the importance of approvals from bodies such as the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and IN-SPACe. This topic is highly relevant for UPSC Prelims 2027, UPSC Mains GS Paper 2 and GS Paper 3, particularly under Science & Technology, Space Technology, Telecommunications, Digital Infrastructure, Governance, Cyber Security and Current Affairs. ************************************************************************** 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐓𝐮𝐛𝐞 Important 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬- 1.
