Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald met with the media to open a week of preparation for the Seahawks' matchup against the Chargers. He walked through practice-schedule adjustments following the East Coast trip and provided health updates on Julian Love, Ty Okada, Zach Charbonnet and Irv Charles, while taking responsibility for improving game-planning and coverage calls after a loss. • (0:02) Macdonald explained the tweaked practice schedule coming off the East Coast trip, and said at (0:28) that the safety position is getting healthier; Julian Love would be on the field in some capacity while Ty Okada would not practice (0:49), a decision on opening Zach Charbonnet's practice window could come as soon as Thursday (0:59, 1:25), and Irv Charles is not open yet (1:06).
• (2:18) Coming off a loss, Macdonald said the week "feels like a Wednesday" because the process and mentality stay consistent, and at (3:04) he took responsibility as head coach for game-planning and calling coverages better, noting the film showed the pass rush and time-to-pressure were good.
• (3:30) He called the matchup against Jim Harbaugh's Chargers special for Special Teams Coordinator Jay Harbaugh, and at (10:08) praised the 0-3 Chargers as talented, tough, well-coached and schematically sound.
• (4:36) Macdonald reflected on his season at Michigan, where feeling that team's connectedness helped shape the "12 as one" idea, on figuring out how to build a defense in the college game (5:23), and on lessons in simplifying calls and emphasizing style of play that he brought back to the NFL (6:27).
• (8:25) He expects the ball to find Rashid Shaheed more as the team sticks to its process, explained at (10:45) why Jaxon Smith-Njigba is equipped to handle a heavy target volume, and at (11:26) was excited about Tory Horton's production after returning from injury.
• (9:09) The run game needs continued work rather than a panic button; he praised center Jalen Sundell's decisiveness and awareness (17:30) and expects the right guard rotation to continue in some form (13:35). He also called Defensive Run Game Coordinator Chris Partridge an "edge chaser" who connects with everyone (13:10).
• (14:34) Macdonald voiced trust in Offensive Coordinator Brian Fleury and the offensive staff on in-game adjustments, revisited the offseason work to restore the home-field advantage ahead of a home-heavy stretch (16:24), said Nick Emmanwori's role will keep expanding
(18:04), confirmed Sam Darnold came out of the weekend well (18:29), and said he'd need more logistical details before backing a return of pass interference challenges (18:47).
