The saints of old endured because they relied not on their own strength, but on God's grace; the same grace is available to us today. Jesus still invites the weary: "Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28) Our Lord is our Redeemer who ransomed us from death. He is also our Shepherd, the Healer who gives us rest.
