VOLKSWAGEN JUST DROPPED A BOMBSHELL: $11,900 CAR WITH NEW ENGINE WILL SHAKE THE ENTIRE EV INDUSTRY!
On October 22, Volkswagen's Chinese joint venture FAW-Volkswagen launched the Jetta M6, the Jetta brand's first fully electric car. It starts at 79,800 yuan (about $11,900). The M6 is a full-size sedan, almost the same length and width as a Tesla Model 3, and it is built on the new Jiesi electric platform with up to 555 km of CLTC range. Jetta says it passed 10,000 locked orders within 19 hours of launch, and its entry price matches BYD's Qin Plus to the exact yuan.
We go back to 1991, when the first Chinese-built Jetta rolled off the line in Changchun and went on to become one of China's best-known taxis. Then we look at how Volkswagen lost its crown in China, with Q3 2026 deliveries there down 38.5%. We break down the M6's new motor, its LFP battery and its 0.208 drag coefficient, and explain why a 150 hp motor can still be a weapon. We also cover Volkswagen's second move of the week, the Xpeng-developed ID. UNYX 09.
