I'm putting all of the notes here this time so I can have a cleaner ending credit sequence. First up; shoutout to the Castlevania speedrunning communities for doing all sorts of crazy shit, like reverse boss order in SotN. You lunatics. And did you know there's mods out that fix HoD's garrish colours and dogwater sound-quality? Amazing! And also a shoutout to the Castlevania-Dungeon for still being online and awesome after all these years (if not decades). And many thanks as well to the Fandom. This radio-drama was originally a feature on the Castlevania: Radio Chronicle program that was broadcast on Konami Station internet radio from August to November of 2008 and hosted by Shinichiroh Miki (Richter's VA), with a CD release a year-and-a-half later in March 2010. According to the Castlevania Fandom website, "various Castlevania subjects were discussed, although other topics non-regarding to the series were discussed as well". If you were wondering why I didn't use the Ayami Kojima art for this drama, it's because she's an amazing oil painter who doesn't have any run-longing manga series, meaning I don't have any source material with which to make character portraits for the drama original characters. Extrapolating new stuff from out of her unrelated-to-Castlevania-work... that's not possible, she's way too much better than me for me to be able to do that, any imitation would look awful. So I looked at the art made for the radio program's CD release specifically, and it's an illustrator-duo known as Usabu Kagerou, who did a lot of work on otome-games like Variable Barricade. I bought me a copy of that, I played through it (I went with the Ichiya-route first because he reminded me of myself, character-wise) and combined what I could get out of that game with Kojima's work for SotN. This is the reason why there simply aren’t all that many portraits per character in this video. Alucard, Maria and Richter all have hairstyles that you don’t see anywhere in Kagero-’s body of work, so I had to take those out of the artwork Kojima made and combine those with Kagero-’s heads. Regardless, it sort of still is based off of the official art, just not Ayami Kojima's art (for the most part). I hope you don't mind, personally I think it works rather well. And I hope Usabu Kagerou wouldn't mind me Frankensteining their work together like I did... As for the backgrounds; those I mostly took from 1979's Nosferatu, the Hammer series of Dracula films starring the immortal Cristopher Lee and Peter Cushing, the 1970 Jesus Franco version of Dracula and pictures I took in London, Delft, The Hague and Rotterdam. I did not expect there to be music from Castlevania 64, but I guess the soundtracks to those two games would lend themselves better to dialogue-driven scenes, being as ambient as they are. I also didn't expect a remix of Cemetery(!) of all things for the epilogue. Alucard, Maria and Richter all have different VAs from the ones in SotN. In SotN and Smash Bros, Alucard was voiced by Ryoutarou Okiayu (who typically does both Protoman and Zero from Megaman and Megaman X respectively), Maria's SotN VA was Chisa Yokoyama (who also played a Maria in Granzord) but Maria has almost had a different VA for every appearance (with this drama and CV Judgement being the exception to that rule), and Richter's SotN VA was Kiyoyuki Yanada (who also did Shaft in that same game... huh...). Yanada would reprise Richter in Smash Bros and the RoB PSP remake, while in the original Rondo of Blood Richter was voiced by Jin Horikawa (who you might know better as Tetsuya Onodera from Super Robot Wars OGs). Alucard's VA in this drama, Mamoru Miyano, did get to come back as Alucard in Castlevania Judgement. Huh? My personal favourite Castlevanias? PoR and Legend 2, but also Rondo and IV. Damn shame Grant got taken for granted in the show. I'm putting the blame squarely on a very specific someone. Thanks for reading!
