This video documents the abandoned wastewater treatment facility associated with the former General Motors Moraine Assembly complex. The interior exploration footage was recorded in 2020, while the exterior aerial drone footage was captured in 2026. Inside, I found massive decanter centrifuges, chemical test kits, and decaying drums of highly toxic, caustic industrial chemicals left behind from the plant's operational days.
While the main GM Moraine Assembly and Engine plants were located on a massive 465-acre footprint, this specific facility operated on a separate 18.7-acre parcel across the street at 3801 Dryden Road. This dedicated complex was used by General Motors for the treatment and disposal of industrial wastewater generated by the main automotive plants. The facility processed materials from electroplating operations, water softening sludges, process wastewaters, fly ash dewatering filtrate, and non-contact cooling water. When GM permanently closed the Moraine assembly operations in December 2008, this wastewater facility was also abandoned.
