Andhra Pradesh is turning itself into the world's largest agriculture laboratory. The state government wants all of its 60 lakh farmers and 60 lakh hectares of farmland to turn to natural farming by 2035--zero synthetic chemicals or fertilizers. Is it feasible, or even a scientifically sensibly idea? While it seems noble, can a system of farming that relies just on cow dung, urine, jaggery and similar ingredients as chemical replacements, end up lowering our food production and endanger food security of the poor?
This in-depth documentary examines the claims and counter-claims of farmers, scientists, activists and policymakers to understand if natural farming at this scale is the answer to our fears, anger and anxiety around climate change and toxic food chains.
