The three types of milk that are needed to make the cake-whole milk or cream, sweetened condensed milk milk and evaporated milk-give it its name. Usually a sponge or butter cake, it is soaked in a concoction of these three milks so that it may absorb the liquid and get super moist. Tres leches cake is made by sponge cake or chiffon cake, making holes in it, and then covering the cake with the three-milk mixture. The cake is often served cold after being allowed to absorb the liquid. Famous for it's thick and creamy mixture, tres leches cake occasionally has whipped cream on top for an extra indulgent touch.
