Can you really see Churchill's polar bears for $160 a day? The number is real — but only for ground costs. This video prices the whole trip honestly.
Churchill, Manitoba has no road in. You fly from Winnipeg (about 2.5 hours) or ride the VIA Rail train for about 2 days via Thompson — and you book the bear tour BEFORE your flights, because tundra buggy seats sell out first.
In this video:
What $160 a day actually covers (ground only) — vs $95 budget and $270 luxury
The full-trip math: return flights $1,000–$1,600+, peak rooms $200–$400+/night, a full-day tundra buggy at several hundred dollars per person
The ideal 4–5 day shape, peak season late October into November
The 8-hour buggy day: rules, lunch on board, and why a second day roughly doubles your sighting odds
Non-buggy days: Itsanitaq Museum, Prince of Wales Fort (half-day boat trip), Cape Merry, and Wapusk National Park (11,000+ sq km, guided access only)
Safety: the polar bear alert system and "polar bear jail", plus packing that actually works (insulated waterproof boots, parka, mittens not gloves)
The season rule: summer = belugas, autumn = bears, winter = northern lights — and clear October/November nights can give you bears by day and aurora by night
