The 42.2 started next to the Lifestyle Centre in Ballito and followed the M4 all the way to the Durban Prominade. A beautiful and scenic point-to-point marathon. The race started 10 minutes late - they said the Metro Police was not yet ready and cause the delay. This is tough on the runners - some of them were up around 02:30AM to get to the transport bus that took runners to the start. Also rough on runners when a very warm day is forcasted. The start at the Lifestyle Centre was not as good as in the past. For some reason the Lifestyle Centre Security were out in full force and prevented runners from entering the centre. The runners were not even allowed to be in the car park there. I was looking for a place to sit to have my coffee and were chased away. Maybe next year the race should start at Ballito Junction? The weather was cool at the start, but very humid. Around the half-way mark the cloud cover disappeared and the temperature started to rise to uncomfortable levels. There were plenty of water tables, but they were struggling to keep the water cold. In hindsight there should have been more ice buckets so that the water sachets did not have to lay in the sun before they got their chance to cool down.
