She is holding Kartikeya (Skanda) in one hand, holds a lotus in the other and third hand and blesses the devotees with the fourth hand. She rides a lion and sits on a lotus, which is why she is also called Padmasana. Karthikeya is known as Murugan in South India. He is the commander-in-chief of the army of gods. Worshiping Maa Skandamata awakens the Vishuddhi Chakra, through which effect one attains the attainment of speech, increases in age and becomes a scholar.
