The devastating flash floods along the Nepal–Tibet border have left thousands dead or missing, while rescue operations continue. But alongside the disaster, another controversy is growing: Is China hiding information about what happened? The floods began on August 26 after a massive glacier and rock collapse triggered torrents of mud, water and debris. The disaster hit both Nepal and China-controlled Tibet. At one stage, Nepal reported 788 deaths and more than 2,500 people missing, while Chinese authorities reported just 5 deaths and 558 missing in Tibet. These sharply different figures raised questions about how the disaster was being reported on the Chinese side. China has also faced criticism over whether Nepal received sufficient information about conditions upstream. However, Nepal's government says the exact cause of the disaster is still not fully determined, so claims that Chinese infrastructure directly caused the flood should be treated as allegations, not established facts. There are several reasons why China is being questioned. The Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river systems originate in the Tibetan region before flowing into Nepal. Critics also point to extensive roads, hydropower projects and other infrastructure in this fragile Himalayan region, arguing that construction could increase environmental risks. Another point of debate is the cause of the disaster. Early reports discussed an earthquake, while later scientific assessments pointed toward a glacier and rock collapse as the trigger. The tragedy has therefore raised a bigger question: When a disaster crosses an international border, how important is transparent and timely sharing of information? For now, rescue teams on both sides continue searching for survivors and the missing. And as investigations continue, the focus remains on understanding what happened — and preventing a similar disaster in the future. #NepalFloods #NepalFlood #TibetFloods #NepalChinaBorder #China #Tibet #Gyirong #FlashFlood #GlacierCollapse #NepalNews #BreakingNews #WorldNews #IndiaSigningHands #ISH #ISHNews #ISL #IndianSignLanguage #SignLanguage ISH News broadcasts the Daily News and Entertainment online in Deaf-friendly accessible formats which are in Indian Sign Language (ISL), visual images with titles, voice-over and closed-captions.
