For once, Court is not in session.
This is just me, out of character, talking about where Critical Grievance came from, why I decided to turn RPG arguments into a fake courtroom, and how an idea that was originally supposed to be a two-person show somehow became me playing the prosecutor, defense attorney, judge, clerk, and occasionally the jury.
I talk about why the different Davids exist, how each one represents a different part of the way I work through an argument, and why the Court sometimes reaches rulings that I personally disagree with.
I also get into how the videos are made, why yes, they are scripted, why I have an increasingly ridiculous pile of paperwork, and what it has been like learning the recording, editing, lighting, graphics, and production side of all this as I go.
Including the unfortunate discovery that some earlier proceedings were recorded at a resolution more commonly associated with an ATM camera.
Critical Grievance is not a business for me. I have a regular job. This is a creative outlet where I get to write, perform ridiculous characters, argue about games I care about, and hopefully make somebody laugh for a few minutes.
I also talk about what the Court is actually for, why not every grievance deserves a Summons, why I sometimes take the Court into comment sections and RPG discussions elsewhere, and why disagreement is part of the fun.
No characters this time. No ruling. No prosecution.
Just the guy behind the fake courthouse explaining why any of this exists.
Next time, Court is back in session.
⚖️ Critical Grievance: The RPG Tribunal
No sacred cows.
Every defendant gets a defense.
Popularity is not a defense.
Entertainment comes first.
