Cycling in Crete: Ierapetra - Mournies - Sikologos - Tertsa - Myrtos

August 14, 2026 Ierapetra - Gra Lygia - Mournies - Sikologos - Tertsa - Myrtos - Ierapetra I started shortly after 08:00 from Ierapetra to go west on the road parallel to the main road in order to avoid the traffic. Apart from a few parts that the road was not good, it worked pretty well. Even with my 23 mm tyres. The highlight is that for the entire ride till I met the main state road outside Myrtos, I met none! I made a first stop a Mournies Kafe. It was beautiful. People gave me tips, cooled my water bottles and all. Fantastic. Then I continued north west towards Kalami and started riding south at Sikologos. Breath taking views of the south Cretan Sea through some of the "Viannos Holocaust" villages. Before commencing my return I made a snack stop at Tertsa. The only point is to warn you that people drive like crazy. Plus loads of garbage on the side of the main road! Unforgettable. Gear: Pinarello/Paris, Campagnolo Veloce and Record 2x10 groupset.
