In this episode of Talk of the Aisle, we sit down with Ashley Novak, founder of Polished & Prosperous, an operations and systems consulting firm for service-based businesses, and Glam On Demand, a Greater Philadelphia bridal and event beauty company now in its 15th year.
Before going full time as an entrepreneur, Ashley led retail teams across more than 30 Benefit Cosmetics locations while building Glam On Demand on the side. A health diagnosis sent her back to a corporate job right as her business was ready to grow, and learning to run both lives at once is what turned her into a systems person.
This conversation is about building a wedding business that doesn't depend on you personally holding every task, decision, and process together. Ashley shares how to tell a process problem from a software problem, what is worth automating, and where automation can quietly make the client experience worse.
We also get honest about the tension between efficiency and hospitality, why some moments in a wedding business should always stay human, and what you should actually do with the time good systems give back.
We talk about:
How managing more than 30 Benefit Cosmetics locations shaped the way Ashley runs a business
Why a health diagnosis sent her back to corporate, and what balancing both lives taught her
The first thing she automates for any business: the response to a new inquiry
Letting clients choose whether they even want a call
How questionnaires keep up with everything that changes before a wedding
Not asking couples the same question twice when you run more than one business
Why relying on memory holds so many business owners back
Checking your inbox morning and night, and the boundaries that earn respect
When efficiency starts working against hospitality
Why couples shouldn't trust everything they see online when choosing vendors
What to understand about your own business before you shop for a CRM
Why most software features are things you will never use
The honest reality of going weeks without a booking
What to do with the time your systems give back
This conversation is about systems, but it is really about building a business that gives you your life back, and being intentional about how you spend that time.
