In the Chief Minister’s home district, independents have emerged as the kingmakers, while both the BJP and Congress have fallen short. The BJP emerged as the single-largest party with 20 seats, but independents are set to play the role of kingmakers in the municipal corporation. In other words, the BJP did not secure a clear victory even in the Chief Minister’s home district and is dependent on independent councillors. In the 65-ward municipal corporation, the biggest political force this time was not any single party, but independent candidates. Independents won 36 wards, leaving both the BJP and Congress behind. The BJP’s Deputy Mayor’s wife also lost the election.
