I left the East behind for the wide-open plains of the West, with my horse, my saber, and the regimental flag flying above me. This is our story, the story of the men of the Seventh Cavalry, their marches, their battles, and the vast lands they crossed in the American West during the 19th century. A story that would lead them to Little Bighorn, where, on June 25, 1876, Custer and the men under his command met their fate. Fifes, drums, horses, and dust... Saddle up, soldier. The regiment is on the move. © 2026 RIVAGES PERDUS. Tous droits réservés. Musiques, paroles, créations visuelles réalisées pour RIVAGES PERDUS. Lyrics Title : The Seventh Cavalry VERSE 1 I came out West when I was young, With a blue coat on my back. A saddle underneath me, A rifle in my pack. The prairie stretched forever, The sky was wide and clear. I rode with the Seventh Cavalry, And I had no room for fear. The drums were steady on the trail. CHORUS Seven riding, side by side, Blue coats shining in the light. Drums keep beating, horses run, Seventh Cavalry, under the sun. VERSE 2 We slept beneath the stars at night, Our horses close at hand. We talked about the girls back home, And dreamed of other lands. Some were young and some were old, But around the fire we'd sing, Soft fiddle tunes in the dark, And voices circling in the ring. CHORUS Seven riding, side by side, Blue coats shining in the light. Drums keep beating, horses run, Seventh Cavalry, under the sun. VERSE 3 Then one morning came the order, And the bugle called us on. We saddled up in silence, Before the morning sun. The dust rose all around us, As we rode across the land. I could feel my horse was nervous, I could feel it in my hands. The bugle echoed far away. BRIDGE We rode toward Little Bighorn, Beneath a burning sky. Nobody knew what waited there, Nobody knew why. Then the world became thunder, Horses running wild. The drums rolled faster under me, I heard a friend call out my name, Like he was just a child. VERSE 4 – AFTERMATH I saw men fall around me, I saw the horses run. The drums were lost beneath the guns, Silence fell across the field and sun. I don't remember every order, I don't remember who was right. I only know the Seventh fell, That long and terrible night. FINAL CHORUS – QUIET Seven riding, side by side, Now the road is cold and wide. No more drums and no more guns, No more riding in the sun. Seven riding, side by side, Blue coats fading in the light. A lonely bugle in the wind, And some never came home that night. OUTRO I was just a soldier Of the Seventh Cavalry. And I remember them all.
