Every October I spend one afternoon and a little under $60 getting ready for the first snow, and most of what I buy costs less than $5. In this video I go through my 14 cheap winter buys, sorted by where they live: the front steps (ice melt that still works when it's bitterly cold, a brighter porch bulb), the car (scraper, winter washer fluid, a foil blanket, a phone charger), the kitchen (a hand-crank can opener, three days of no-cook food, a gallon of water per person per day), the dark (flashlights and motion night lights), and the person, especially if you live alone (hand warmers, a whistle, and a pouch by the door with your medicine list). Plus the two places I never buy cheap: winter boots and space heaters.
